Canson Paper, everything you need to know about the Infinity Brand!

Founded in 1557, Canson has been a leading paper mill for centuries. Many notable artists have used Canson’s paper including Picasso, Warhol, Miro and Van Gogh.

Canson has its own fine art and photo inkjet papers under the Canson Infinity brand, which is a market leader in art production and photography paper.

We have recently expanded our range of Canson Infinity products and now have a definitive range of excellent Canson Infinity products that may be of interest for all types of requirements.

The new Canson Infinity Arches® range has some great paper products!

Arches 88

This extra smooth matte paper is 100% cotton with no optical brightening agents, it has a soft and supple feel to the touch. This gives a pure white tone, whilst still allowing for superb colour rendition and deep blacks.

Arches BFK Rives White and Arches BFK Pure White

These both have a soft texture matte finish and similarly are also 100% cotton with no optical brightening agents. However, what stands out about these papers is the white tone it has been able to achieve which allows for superb tonal range, highlights and mid-tones.

Arches Aquarelle Rag

Some would consider this similar to watercolour paper. However, unlike many other similar textured papers, the Arches Aquarelle Rag still gives excellent colour rendition, deep blacks and pure whites. Very similar to the Canson Infinity Aquarelle Rag, the Arches Aquarelle Rag has a much whiter tone than the previous version.

For the whole Arches® range what is exceptional is the white tone achieved on a non-glossy paper, there aren’t many other products like this. And this, therefore, allows for its excellent colour rendition, deep blacks and pure whites, that often just can’t be achieved to the same degree in other non-glossy papers.

Canson Infinity Baryta Photographique

The Canson Infinity Baryta Photographique may be a familiar product. It offers the original darkroom Baryta print’s look and aesthetic whilst maintaining maximum longevity. It gives a museum-grade photo paper with excellent black density and great image sharpness which makes it ideal for black and white photography. We still stock this product.

However, the new Canson Infinity Baryta Photographique II is a new addition to our range and provides some additional features. That is, Canson has reduced the content of optical brightener agents. This allows for greater longevity in the colour of the photography and greater consistency in the colours under different lighting. Canson has also been able to use 100% cotton in the Canson Infinity Baryta Photographique II, rather than alpha-cellulose. The Canson Infinity Baryta Photographique II is available in a Satin and Matte surface finish. These are some great developments in what was already a top-end paper.

Canson Infinity Baryta Prestige II

Another new update to a familiar product is the Canson Infinity Baryta Prestige II, which has the benefits of the previous Canson Infinity Baryta Prestige. However, there are no optical brightening agents. This means that they have achieved a high white paper with no optical brightening agents, for the first time creating greater longevity and less deterioration. It is still a rigid, extra smooth and secure feeling paper, with a wide range of tones that allow for great detail. This makes it suited for dark and night photography because of its high D-max density. It is unique for a paper to have a high D-max and no optical brighteners! There is a coating of barium sulphate which further creates an aesthetic of traditional darkroom paper. The Canson Infinity Baryta Prestige II does not compromise and is a fantastic paper for a wide range of uses.

A unique watercolour paper with a Matte Textured finish available at 240gsm or 310gsm, with a warm white tone. Also its composition conceives the highest archival standards and excellent age resistance.

Edition Etching Rag

A smooth textured paper that exhibits the characteristics of a genuine etching and printmaking paper. It maintains a pure white tone without using any optical brightening agents. This has a matte surface finish and comes in at 310gsm.

Platine Fibre Rag

This is a premium 100% cotton platinum paper with the latest microporous coating, weighing 310gsm. It also has an extremely high D-max, exceptional grey tones and true pure white tone without using optical brighteners. It sets the benchmark for digital darkroom papers with excellent longevity.

Velin Museum Rag

Available at 250gsm or 315gsm, this paper is naturally age-resistant and has a unique fine-grained reminiscent of traditional museum papers. With a smooth surface and structure, offering a pure white tone without optical brightening agents. It is ideal for sophisticated photographs and museum-grade applications, as well as fine art prints.

Rag Photographique

This paper offers a unique extra smooth surface with a sensual feel. It also provides one of the highest achievable D-max currently available on the market, making it ideal for fine art photography as well as fine art printmaking. Available at 210gsm or 310gsm; there is also a Rag Photographique Duo, which allows for printing on both sides of the paper, this however is 220gsm.

Museum Pro Canvas

Available in either a Matte or Lustre finish. This is a top-grade professional canvas made from 100% cotton coated with advanced microporous technology. A water-resistant paper specifically designed to produce high resolution precise fine art reproductions.

PhotoArt Pro Canvas

Available in either a Matte or Lustre finish. This is made of poly-cotton meaning this is a slightly thicker and heavier canvas compared to the Museum Pro Canvas whilst also creating precise fine art reproductions images with a very high resolution.

Photo HighGloss Premium RC

This is an ultra-smooth, acid-free paper, made from alpha-cellulose coated with polyethene and multiple microporous colour receiver layers, weighing 315gsm. An ultra-white photo paper with the highest gloss level of any photographic resin-coated paper. This offers vivid colours and deep blacks, coupled with excellent image sharpness. Therefore it is perfect for colour photography because of its exceptional D-max and extremely wide colour gamut.

Photo Lustre Premium RC

In many ways this paper shares most of the same qualities as the Photo HighGloss Premium RC, the only real difference being a Lustre surface finish rather than a Gloss finish and a slightly lower weight of 310gsm.

PhotoGloss Premium RC

An even whiter and lighter paper, at 270gsm, than the Photo HighGloss Premium RC. This paper offers an exceptional D-max as well as a wide colour gamut and is ideal to produce stunning colour photographs. It also exceeds the expectations of true professional photographic paper. Therefore it has been designed to comply with the highest lifespan requirements.

PhotoSatin Premium RC

This paper shares most of the same qualities as the PhotoGloss Premium RC. However, with a satin finish rather than gloss, this paper gives softened reflections on photographs, making it a great choice for black & white and colour photography.
